NSW rail customers urged to allow extra travel time tomorrow

Customers can expect industrial-related impacts to continue on the NSW rail network tomorrow (Friday 8 July), with the Fair Work Commission hearing ongoing.

With industrial action continuing there will be fewer rail services available on Friday compared to the normal weekday timetable across the Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity network.

Transport for NSW’s Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins said NSW rail customers should plan their journey in advance and allow for extra travel time.

“Commuters are experiencing longer journey times, less frequent services, and changes to stopping patterns across the public transport network due to industrial action, weather impacts, and COVID-related staffing shortages,” Mr Collins said.

“We are doing our best to limit disruptions to commuters and run services safely, however customers are urged to plan ahead and allow plenty of travel time.

“While we’re attempting to get as many services running as possible customers can expect similar conditions to Wednesday – with less frequent services, and changes to stopping patterns.

“We appreciate the patience of our customers this week and last week as both industrial action and extreme weather effects reduced rail services,” he said

Due to planned trackwork, buses continue to replace trains between Lidcombe and Sydenham on the T3 Bankstown line.

The ongoing effects from the clean-up following this week’s extreme weather, which impacted the network across parts of Greater Sydney, the Hunter and Wollongong, means regional customers will see more disruption than usual.

Localised flooding and multiple landslips are impacting services, including a major landslip along the main western rail line across the Blue Mountains that will take weeks to repair.

The landslip, which occurred near Blackheath, has closed the line between Katoomba and Mt Victoria, which means passenger services cannot travel through the Blue Mountains. Buses are replacing trains between Katoomba and Mount Victoria.
