Plans for new bridge and road upgrades on Kidman Way

Early planning has begun for a bridge replacement and road upgrades that will improve safety on Kidman Way, south of Griffith.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said Transport will host a community drop-in session next month to connect with local stakeholders, collect feedback and answer questions.

“The community’s feedback will be used to help plan these important safety upgrades,” the spokesperson said.

“The project includes replacing an irrigation bridge and upgrading the Kidman Way intersections with North Kooba Settlers Road, Pellizer Road, Waide Road and Marston Road.

“This work is all about improving safety and efficiency.

“The Kidman Way bridge over Benerembah Channel at North Kooba Road is about 50 years old and is in poor condition, needing to be replaced.

“The new bridge will be wider than the current structure, stronger and a more sustainable bridge with improved visibility for transport customers.

“In addition to the bridge upgrade, Transport has identified ways to enhance safety and efficiency at the bridge and its approaches.

“These improvements include adding turning lanes, improved turning movements for heavy vehicles and realigning the road.

“A design will be finalised following feedback from the community.”

The community drop-in session will be held on Thursday 10 November at Restyn Park, Hanwood (opposite Hanwood Public School), with residents and visitors invited to drop in any time between 2pm and 5pm.

The replacement bridge will be built on a new alignment, so traffic can continue to use the old bridge during construction, which will minimise traffic impacts.

Work is expected to start in late 2023 and will take about 18 months to complete.

Transport for NSW will keep the community informed of any updates as the project progresses.
