Pre-Book Parking at Ashfield

Commuters will be able to pre-book parking near Ashfield train station from tomorrow, thanks to a new Park&Ride trial.

Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance said commuters, who use their Opal card on public transport, will be able to secure parking in advance at the commuter car park on Brown Street.

“We know car parks fill up quickly during the morning peak and this new parking system will provide peace of mind for drivers who know they can pre-book a space at a time that suits them,” Mr Constance said.

“Catching public transport and supporting customers during their entire trip is important to us. This is all about making parking as convenient as possible for those wanting to connect from their car to the transport network.”

“Drivers simply book and pay through the Park&Ride App to guarantee a spot. They can stay free for up to 18 hours when they use their Opal card to catch public transport.”

Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said Park&Ride is another great example of how technology can make life easier for the people of Sydney.

“Our goal is to make NSW the smartest state and trials like this are mapping that course,Mr Dominello said.

Customers will enter the car park and proceed to the pre-booked area boom gates, which use license plate recognition to identify the booking.

When exiting the carpark, drivers will have to verify that they have used public transport by tapping their Opal card at the pre-booked exit boom gate otherwise additional rates and fees will apply.
