Safety improvement work starts on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Black Hill

Motorists will soon benefit from a $1.8 million NSW Government investment in safety improvements on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Black Hill.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the work continued the NSW Government’s investment in one of Australia’s busiest roads.

“In the past 12 months, we’ve completed upgrades from Kariong to Somersby and Tuggerah to Doyalson that are delivering improved traffic flow and safer journeys and this is yet another investment in ensuring everyone who uses this road gets home safely,” Mr Toole said. 

“The work has been fast tracked as part of the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to delivering stimulus projects that support regional jobs and help boost business across the state. 

“The M1 project will not only support 40 jobs during construction, but will improve safety for the more than 30,000 motorists using the motorway each day.”

Work starting Sunday May 2 on the M1 between John Renshaw Drive and the Black Hill Road overpass involves shoulder widening, new line marking, and installing 1.5 kilometres of wire rope safety barrier in the median plus 680 metres of road side guardrail.

To reduce impact to motorists work will be carried out between 7pm and 5am from Sunday to Thursday and is expected to be complete in eight weeks, weather permitting.

Lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place during work hours, with a reduced speed limit occasionally in place during the day for the safety of motorists.
