Member for Vaucluse, Gabrielle Upton today announced that motorists will enjoy smoother and more reliable journeys on Old South Head Road with new and extended clearways to be installed between Curlewis Street, Bondi and Syd Enfield Drive, Bondi Junction.

Ms Upton said, “More than 35,000 vehicles travel along Old South Head Road each day including more than 280 bus services each weekday which makes it a key traffic corridor in our local area.”

Roads and Maritime Services have now completed the Community Engagement Report following months of community consultation. The new clearways on Old South Head Road will be in operation in both directions on weekdays from 6am to 7pm, and on weekends and public holidays from 9am to 6pm. The clearways currently operate on weekdays for eastbound motorists between 3pm and 7pm and westbound between 6am and 10am.

The changes at Flood Street will also help to get more people through the traffic lights at the intersection with Victoria Road, where parked vehicles can restrict traffic to only one city-bound lane.

“These clearways follow a successful rollout of new and extended clearways along New South Head Road between McLachlan Avenue, Rushcutters Bay and Bay Street, Double Bay which have helped residents travel to where they need to be quicker and more easily,” Ms Upton said.

The existing westbound ‘Left Turn Only - Buses Excepted’ lane into Flood Street will also be changed into a ‘Through and Left Turn Lane’ for all vehicles.

Roads and Maritime will work with local Council on the proposed adjustments to provide additional timed parking near businesses on this stretch of road, and thank motorists and local community for their involvement in the process.
