Speed limit reduction for Wongawilli

The speed limit will be reduced on West Dapto Road at Wongawilli from today to improve safety and align with a recent road upgrade.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the existing 50 km/h speed limit area on West Dapto Road will be extended from Shone Avenue for 365 metres east.

“The West Dapto area is rapidly expanding and we will continue to work with Wollongong City Council to meet the changing needs of the community,” the spokesperson said.

“This includes carrying out speed zone reviews to provide consistent speed zoning for the suburb.”

These changes will align with the wider work for the West Dapto Road upgrade.

The review was carried out in accordance with the NSW Speed Zoning Guidelines and took into consideration factors such as road geometry and usage, residential development, traffic mix and volumes.

To help implement the change, Transport sought community feedback on the speed zone reduction. Based on this feedback Transport are proposing to implement the new 50 km/h zone on Monday 5 June 2023.

This change would result in a travel time increase of approximately 10 seconds.

Feedback received will be shared with council and inform future project work on West Dapto Road
