Work starts to improve King Georges Road

Work to ease congestion, boost safety, and improve travel times along King Georges Road between Stoney Creek Road at Beverly Hills and Forest Road at Hurstville will start this month.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said more than 43,000 motorists travel in both directions every day along King Georges Road and experience significant congestion between Stoney Creek Road and Forest Road, particularly during the weekday peak.

"To address this issue, Transport for NSW will widen King Georges Road to create three lanes in each direction, separated by a concrete median, to deliver more reliable journeys for motorists," the spokesperson said.

"The upgrade also includes the addition of a dedicated right turn lane on King Georges Road southbound for motorists turning right into Percival Street, following community consultation on the project in 2018."

Transport for NSW will start work from this month, including demolishing Transport for NSW owned properties, trimming and removing vegetation, and disconnecting utilities.

Once early work is completed, major work is on track to start in 2021.

Work will be carried out from Friday 30 October to Friday 29 February 2021, between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday, 8am and 1pm Saturday, and 9pm and 5am Sunday to Thursday, weather permitting and excluding public holidays.

During this time, traffic control and reduced speed limits will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
