How innovators are helping to build the next gen of transport

Our first ever Travel Choices Innovation Challenge let innovators develop products that help our customers change their travel behaviour.

As Sydney goes through a major period of change, we need to reconsider the ways we travel. Here at Transport for NSW, we want to support customers to shift to more sustainable ways of moving in, out and around the Sydney CBD.

The Travel Choices Innovation Challenge formed part of the ongoing Future Transport program, which aims to harness technology to innovate and improve the ways we travel across the state.

Challenge entrants were required to focus on four key principles to manage travel demand: Remode, Retime, Reroute and Reduce. Each of these encourage customers to travel in different ways, at different times or to harness flexible working policies in order to save time and money or improve their health and benefit the environment by reducing carbon emissions.

We invited five applicants to pitch their innovative products to an esteemed panel including senior leaders from TfNSW from our Sydney Coordination Office and Customer Services Division and from the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Results will be announced in coming months and winners will be promoted through social media and websites including transportnsw.info, Open Data Hub Developer Portal and Tomorrow’s Sydney Travel Choices Webpage. They will also be promoted to business and customers via Travel Choices collateral.

The Travel Choices Innovation Challenge is a collaboration between the Customer Experience Division Open Data Innovation Team and the Sydney Coordination Office Travel Choices Team.
