The On Demand Transport program was announced in November 2016, to identify and pilot creative new ways for people to reach their destinations quickly, safely, easily and efficiently, at a time that suits them.

Transport for NSW held an industry briefing at Australian Technology Park on 14 December 2016, aimed at potential delivery partners.

Speakers included:

  • Tony Braxton-Smith, Deputy Secretary, Customer Services
  • Peter Andrews, Project Director, Service Delivery & Performance, Infrastructure & Services

TfNSW Deputy Secretary of Customer Services, Tony Braxton-Smith, said the program is an important transport initiative.

Transport solutions are initially being sought for Sydney and Outer Sydney Metropolitan areas. TfNSW will work with potential partners and pilot the best ideas in 2017.

“We see an opportunity to take advantage of new technologies which will change our customers’ experience of transport. We've had a look at emerging technologies and identified 12 we think will have the biggest impact on transport.

We've visualised four different scenarios and a set of technology-enabled strategies to help us transform and personalise transport for our customers,” Mr Braxton-Smith said.

The On Demand Transport program is part of the NSW Future Transport Strategy, which includes a Technology Roadmap. Increased collaboration and new ways of working with delivery partners are vital to meeting the objectives of the Strategy.
