Intelligent Access Program (IAP) maps and lists

This includes:

Higher Mass limits (HML) short combinations
HML 25/26m B-doubles
HML Type 1 A-double road trains (includes modern road trains)
General Mass Limits (GML) modular B-triples on and east of the Newell Highway
GML and HML B-triples
GML and HML AB-triples
HML modular B-triples on approved roads west of the Newell Highway
High risk mobile cranes.

Please note: The published maps and approved road lists are the legally enforceable network in NSW.

NSW Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Network map

The NSW SPV Network map is an interactive map service that shows five networks with each network providing details of approved roads and restricted locations and/or assets for that level.

The NSW SPV Network map states the access for eligible special purpose vehicles operating under the National Class 1 Special Purpose Vehicle Notice.

The NSW SPV Network map, if listed as the approved route on an access permit or IAP Certificate of Enrolment, also provides the legally enforceable network for a special purpose vehicle.

Please note that access permits issued under co-delegation by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) are for travel on TfNSW managed roads only (i.e. State Roads)

What is the interactive RAV map?

The interactive RAV map provides an active depiction of the location of road network and approved routes for use by heavy vehicles.

Approved routes are shown by heavy vehicle types and map layers can be switched on and off as required, allowing you the option of customising your view.

Using the interactive RAV maps

The interactive RAV map offer pan/zoom, different map views, location search and access to local street images.

Routes and zones approved for travel are enabled or switched off by selecting the vehicle type using the radio buttons in the legend menu on the left hand side.

Information about a particular route e.g. Travel Restrictions, is accessed by clicking on the route, which will launch an information box which provides detailed information.

By using the zoom and drag features included you are able to view and print maps at the level of detail and covering the area you need.

The search function lets you centre the map on a geographic location, based on an:

address
town
postcode
a set of coordinates.

Disclaimer and important information

The interactive map shows RAV approved routes and restrictions as an overlay on top of Google maps. TfNSW has no responsibility for, and does not guarantee the accuracy of, the underlying Google maps.

TfNSW strives to be accurate in showing the HML approved routes and restrictions, however there may be errors and omissions caused by Google maps being incorrect or out of date. TfNSW is not responsible for errors or omissions due to changes to the map by external organisations.

Interactive HML Restricted Access Vehicle routes

The interactive RAV map provides details on the roads and zones approved for the following heavy vehicle combinations when selecting the corresponding option show the approved road network for use by:

HML short combinations
HML 25/26m B-doubles

The map is refreshed to include any updates every two weeks.

HML Type 1 A-double road train routes

HML Type 1 A-double road trains (including Modern road trains) operating up to 36.5m in length can access approved HML Type 1 A-double road train approved roads in NSW shown in the Interactive Road Train map by selecting ‘Type 1 A-double’ under the ‘HML networks’ heading.

GML modular B-triples on and east of the Newell Highway

GML modular B-triples operating up to 35.0m in length can access approved GML modular B-triple roads in NSW shown in the Interactive Road Train map by selecting ‘Modular B-triple’ under the ‘GML and CML networks’ heading.

Heavy vehicles operating at Concessional Mass Limits (CML) can access the approved GML networks provided they comply with Schedule 2 CML in the Heavy Vehicle (Mass, Dimension and Loading) National Regulation and meet the relevant GML access conditions.

HML modular B-triple routes

HML modular B-triples operating up to 35.0m in length can access approved HML modular B-triple roads in NSW shown in the Interactive Road Train map by selecting ‘Modular B-triple’ under the ‘HML networks’ heading.

GML B-triple routes

GML B-triples operating up to 36.5m in length, other than modular B-triples, can access approved GML B-triple roads in NSW shown in the Interactive Road Train map by selecting ‘B-triple’ under the ‘GML and CML networks’ heading.

Heavy vehicles operating at CML can access the approved GML networks provided they comply with Schedule 2 CML in the Heavy Vehicle (Mass, Dimension and Loading) National Regulation and meet the relevant GML access conditions.

HML B-triple routes

HML B-triples operating up to 36.5m in length other than modular B-triples, can access the approved HML B-triples roads in NSW shown in the Interactive Road Train map by selecting ‘B-triple’ under the ‘HML networks’ heading.

GML AB-triple routes

GML AB-triples operating up to 36.5m in length can access approved GML AB-triple roads in NSW shown in the Interactive Road Train map by selecting ‘AB-triple’ under the ‘GML and CML networks’ heading.

HML AB-triple routes

HML AB-triples operating up to 36.5m in length can access the approved HML AB-triple roads in NSW shown in the Interactive Road Train map by selecting ‘AB-triple’ under the ‘HML networks’ heading.

B-double or road train access conditions

Transport operators are advised that all conditions stated for GML B-double or Type 1 A-double road trains also apply to HML approved roads. Consideration should be given to GML B-double or road train access arrangements and/or conditions when considering HML access for these combinations.

Performance Based Standards (PBS) map

The PBS map shows approved network routes for eligible PBS vehicles/combinations operating in NSW under an access permit issued by the NHVR or a National PBS Notice.

Route assessment

Transport operators can request for assessment of roads that are not currently approved for higher productivity vehicle access by applying to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR). For enquiries and support email info@nhvr.gov.au or phone 1300 MY NHVR (1300 696 487).

Vehicles must not operate on requested roads until they are stated as approved roads on the access permit or until the approved roads appear on the relevant IAP maps and/or approved road lists.
