Central Station Precinct
The project links Central Station, the new Metro, the Sydney Light Rail extension, and current services.
- Customers will have direct access to suburban train platforms for the first time
- A new underground concourse (Central Walk) so the area can comfortably cater for a surge in customers
- Central Walk will also link customers with new Metro platforms
We are developing a vision and plan for the Central Station precinct, focusing on connecting the transport modes with the surrounding recreational, business, residential and educational areas.
Central Station is a key transport hub in the NSW network and it will soon become a major interchange with the new Sydney Metro and an expanded Sydney Light Rail network.
An iconic landmark, the station is also at the heart of a revitalisation of Sydney’s southern CBD.
We have an opportunity to reimagine the Central Station Precinct, ensuring that the investment in new transport infrastructure reflects what the community and stakeholders want for the grand landmark station, recognising its iconic place in Sydney’s history and future.
Central Walk will be delivered at the same time as the new Sydney Metro platforms. Construction is due to start in 2018.
We’d like to thank the customers and stakeholders who shared their ideas for renewing Central Station and its surrounds.

The Engagement Report provides an overview of the engagement process and feedback from the community.
Our customers want better connections to, from and around Central and more vibrant community spaces. They want to see more cafes, restaurants and retail stores feature in the Central of the future, while preserving the heritage of this icon.
