We welcome all your feedback on the REF and have extended the closing date for submissions until 5pm Friday 11 December 2020.

In response to the evolving Coronavirus situation, Transport for NSW is following NSW Health advice and changing the way it approaches community consultation for important transport infrastructure projects.

It is important for the community to have their say on all transport infrastructure projects. This means consultation will be carried out in different ways to ensure the community can practice social distancing and limit the spread of Coronavirus.

Online community information session

To ensure the health and safety of the community and our staff we will replace face to face community information sessions with an online information session on the Transport for NSW Facebook page on 10 November between 4pm and 4.30pm.

During the session, you can find out more about the REF from the project team and raise questions and concerns. If you are not able to join the live session or would like to submit your questions in advance, please email the team at nwgc@transport.nsw.gov.au or call us on 1300 367 561.

All feedback received will be considered and factored into the next stages of the project.

Project information

Background

The area surrounding Riverstone is an integral part of the North West Growth Area and the expected increase in population and development will mean significantly more traffic in the area.

The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) has granted Special Infrastructure Contribution (SIC) funding for Transport for NSW to undertake the planning of Garfield Road East and West. This will support planning for the release of the Marsden Park North, West Schofields and Riverstone East Precincts.

Upgrading the Garfield Road corridor is part of the North West Growth Centre Road Network Strategy long term works.

The overall Garfield Road corridor is 7.4 kilometres and has been split into three sections:

  • Garfield Road East corridor extends 3.4 kilometres between Piccadilly Street, Riverstone and Winsdor Road, Box Hill
  • Garfield Road central extending 800 metres between Piccadilly Street and Denmark Road, Riverstone
  • Garfield Road West corridor extending 3.2 kilometres between Richmond Road, Marsden Park and Denmark Road, Riverstone.

Transport for NSW is planning for the future upgrade of Garfield Road East and Garfield Road West corridors to facilitate development of land surrounding the corridor.

Benefits

Benefits of the upgrades include:

  • Improving road capacity to meet future traffic growth
  • Supporting residential and employment growth
  • Improving freight productivity
  • Improving road safety
  • Improving connectivity between Richmond Road and Windsor Road.
