Gum Nut Close, Nth Kellyville school zone extended

Reviewed

Project overview

Transport for NSW will be installing new school zone signs and new road markings on Gum Nut Close, Messenger Street and Churchill Way to extend the school zone at Hills Adventist College, North Kellyville.

Work on the new school zone will include:

  • relocating some of the existing static school zone signs
  • installing new static school zone signs
  • painting new road markings including “40” speed limit pavement patches and dragon’s teeth.

Project information

Why a school zone?

Since the school zone was established in 2013, new roads have been built in the area.  New signage and road markings are required to improve visibility of the school zone for roads users.

In line with Transport for NSW School Zone guidelines, a school zone is to be provided where a direct access point is available to a school.  The upgraded school zone will now clearly cover the two main access points to the Hills Adventist College on Gum Nut Close, west of Messenger Street.

Why are school zones important?

The 40km/h speed limit helps protect children on their way to and from school during the busy times at the start and end of school days. This lower speed limit reduces the risk and potential severity of a crash.

School zone signs and dragon’s teeth road markings improve the visibility of school zones.

When will the new speed limit be enforced?

The new 40km/h speed limit on signposted roads will be legally enforced from Monday 18 July.  Penalties may apply after the signs are installed.

Our work schedule

We will be on site for one 9am to 2.30pm day shift and one 9pm to 5am night shift between Monday 4 and Friday 8 July, weather permitting.

How will the work affect me?

There may be some noise with this work, but every effort will be made to lessen the disturbance to nearby residents. We will reduce noise by using hand tools and turning off vehicles when not in use.
