Improvements between Figtree & Dapto - M1 Princes Motorway projects

Reviewed

Project overview

Transport for NSW is planning upgrades to the M1 Princes Motorway between Picton Road and Bulli Tops.

Recent work carried out by Transport for NSW on the M1 Princes Motorway between Figtree and Dapto focused on initiatives to provide additional road infrastructure.

The project is now part of the Mount Ousley to Yallah Integrated Transport Plan, which is part funded by the Department of Planning and Environment to look at broader transport solutions to address growth, including the West Lake Illawarra Growth Area. This project is in the scoping phase and will build on previous modelling and design investigations. It will also consider the bigger transport picture, including public and active transport alternatives, before the delivery of any capacity upgrades along the motorway.

This new approach will allow us to make an informed decision on improvements to the whole transport system instead of looking at the motorway in isolation. This multi-modal approach will help support liveable and sustainable communities in the long term.

The Illawarra-Shoalhaven will grow by 100,000 extra people by 2041, increasing the total population of the region to 505,000 people. This growth will deliver new homes, jobs and services, influencing travel behaviour and demand. Looking at the transport system as a whole will help us determine options that best meet our customer needs.

This web page will be removed in early 2023.
