Project information

About this project

These upgrades are within the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) local government area and include:

  • The duplication of Old Cooma Road, to improve alignment and capacity between Edwin Land Parkway and Googong Road.
  • The upgrade of four sections of Nerriga Road (MR92)
  • A new roundabout at the corner of Malbon Street and Molonglo Street on the Kings Highway in Bungendore.

QPRC will manage the delivery of the work associated with the program.

Old Cooma Road - Stage 2

The Old Cooma Road - Stage 2 project involved the 4.5 kilometre duplication of Old Cooma Road between Edwin Land Parkway and Googong Road to improve safety and traffic flow. A 2.5 metre off road shared path has also been provided for pedestrians and cyclists, linking Queanbeyan to Googong.

Construction started in early 2019 and was completed in mid-2020.

For more information visit the QPRC website.

Nerriga Road upgrades

This program of work involves safety upgrades to more than 11 kilometres of Nerriga Road:

  • Stage 1 - Grants Road to Stewarts Crossing Road (5km) - was completed in December 2018.
  • Stage 2 - Stewarts Crossing Road to Charleyong Bridge (3.1km) - was completed in October 2019. This also linked to new sections of Nerriga Road on the approaches to the new Charleyong Bridge.
  • Stage 3 - Durran Durra Range - Brightside Road to Grants Road (3.1km) - currently underway and expected to be completed by late-2021.
  • Stage 4 - Kings Highway/Nerriga Road intersection - this stage is expected to begin in mid-2021 and be completed by late 2021.

Work includes both widening and sealing of unsealed sections with the aim of working toward a Higher Mass Limit route from Nowra to the Kings Highway at Braidwood.

Work on Nerriga Road has started. For more information visit the QPRC website.

New Bungendore roundabout on Kings Highway

This project includes a new roundabout at the corner of Malbon and Molonglo streets in Bungendore. The roundabout will reduce traffic congestion and increase safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

Major work is expected to start in mid-2021 and be completed by early 2022, weather permitting.
