Transport for NSW has built the New England Highway bypass of Scone to improve traffic flow, travel times and safety for road users.

Transport for NSW is planning for a future New England Highway Singleton Bypass to improve traffic flow, travel times and safety through Singleton town centre by reduced traffic including heavy freight. The NSW Government is investing in work along a three kilometre section of road from the Denman Road and Golden Highway intersection to provide a stronger, longer lasting and safer road.

The New England Highway bridge barrier improvement project will deliver safety upgrades to bridge barriers on four bridges on the New England Highway between Ravensworth and Liddell. The NSW Government is funding $1.4 million of safety improvements on the New England Highway at Dundee, 27 kilometres north of Glen Innes. The NSW Government is funding important upgrades on the New England Highway as part of its Saving Lives on Country Roads program. Transport for NSW is carrying out a number of improvements on the New England Highway.

The New England Highway connects the Hunter region at its southern end to the Queensland border at its Northern end. The Australian and NSW Governments are investing $340 million to deliver a New England Highway bypass of Muswellbrook. The bypass would improve travel times, freight efficiency and safety for all road users.

Transport for NSW is upgrading the New England Highway between Belford and the Golden Highway to provide two travel lanes in each direction and a flyover for vehicles turning right from the Golden Highway towards Maitland and Newcastle. The NSW Government is investing $97 million for the upgrade to improve traffic flow, travel times and safety for motorists.

Feb 2022 - Start of work

Work will start on safety improvements from Sunday 23 January. We will be working between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday and between 7am and 5pm on Saturdays. Work is expected to be completed by mid-April 2022, weather permitting. We will let you know in advance if we need to do any work outside these times.

Background

The NSW Government is funding $1.4 million safety improvements, as part of its asset rehabilitation program on the New England Highway, Dundee, 27 kilometres north of Glen Innes.

Transport for NSW will carry out the work, which includes road resurfacing, line marking and installation of audio-tactile line marking, culvert extensions and replacements, removal and reinstalling damaged safety barriers, signage upgrades, pavement work, drainage repairs and general maintenance.

Lane closures and a 40km/h speed limit will be in place during work hours and may affect travel times.

Work was completed on April 2022.
