Safety After Dark CCTV trial commences at Wollongong Station

Reviewed

Project overview

Transport for NSW, Sydney Trains and the University of Wollongong are testing the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.

Key benefits

  1. Improve safety of customers travelling on the transport network.
  2. Provide de-identified data derived from the AI on the likelihood of fighting detected at Wollongong Station.
  3. Cross-reference incidents detected by AI technologies against the Sydney Trains record of incidents to assess accuracy of the AI in a live environment.

TfNSW will utilise the CCTV cameras from existing Sydney Trains owned camera assets at Wollongong Station.

Footage will be processed by an AI application and subsequently converted into numerical data. Only de-identified data will be captured in order to explore the capability and constraints of using AI technologies.

This is an initiative of the Safety After Dark Innovation Challenge and the project will be active until 31st December 2021.
