Project information

Background

The NSW Government released its roadmap to deliver the state’s future transport network, the Future Transport Strategy 2056, in 2018. The Bus Priority Infrastructure Program (BPIP) supports this vision by delivering infrastructure that make bus services faster and more reliable, such as bus lanes, bus priority at intersections or more efficient bus stop placements.

As part of the program, we are proposing to improve several bus stops along the Great Western Highway, Emu Plains. The proposed improvements will enhance safety for passengers, facilities and the overall customer experience.

Key outcomes

  • smoother boarding and disembarking for all passengers
  • improved safety for all who walk, cycle or drive along these roads and intersections
  • improving safety for bus operations
  • more access and links connecting people and places
  • improved public transport performance
  • making travel times more reliable for customers
  • contributing to the NSW Government’s target of 95 per cent on-time running of bus services.

Bus stop changes

Great Western Highway at Warring Avenue, Emu Plains

Changes to the bus stop will improve access for passengers and enhance safety. To achieve this, we will:

  • construct an indented bus stop
  • relocate existing signage
  • remove vegetation
  • replant as per proposed landscaping.

Great Western Highway at Nepean Street, Emu Plains

Improvements to this area will provide safer crossing for pedestrians and enhance safety when connecting to existing footpaths. To achieve this, we will:

  • construct pedestrian refuge
  • add footpath
  • reconstruct existing pram ramp
  • relocate existing bus shelter
  • construct indented bus stop
  • construct retaining wall.

Bus stop – Great Western Highway at Billington Place, Emu Plains

Changes to this bus stop will ease traffic movements at the right turn lane to Old Bathurst Road and improve safety for customers. To achieve this we will:

  • construct indented bus stop
  • realign existing share path
  • extend existing service road and relocate left out exit on to Great Western Highway
  • realign left out exit of service road with the Great Western Highway.

Bus stop – Great Western Highway at Lamrock Street, Emu Plains

This bus stop moves eastbound along the Great Western Highway at Lamrock Steet. We will relocate this bus stop to reduce traffic movements in the area and improve safety for passengers.
