Concessions and schemes

NSW public transport concessions

The NSW Government provides subsidised or concession travel to a wide range of people including school and tertiary students, jobseekers, apprentices, trainees, people with disabilities, eligible ex-members of the Defence Forces, pensioners, seniors and war widows and widowers.

School Student Transport Scheme

The School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) is one of the most generous subsidised travel programs in Australia. The NSW Government provides more than $550 million to subsidise the 120 million trips taken annually by NSW school students to and from school. We manage the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) on the Government’s behalf.

SSTS for operators

Transport operators issue passes and schools play an important role in verifying students' eligibility and liaising with transport providers.

SSTS for schools

Schools play an important role in verifying whether a student is eligible under the SSTS and liaise with transport providers to support the application process.
