Why apply?

Driver training

You don’t need any prior bus driving experience to kick-start your career as a bus driver. As a new recruit, you will undertake a full training program to gain the essential skills, knowledge and confidence to safely transport your passengers.

Attaining your bus driver authority

To start your journey towards being a bus driver, you will need to apply for a Bus Driver Authority. 

To help you get started, the $70 application fee has been waived until 31 July 2026.

Staff Opal Card

Bus drivers are now eligible for a Staff Opal Card, giving you access to unlimited free public transport across the Opal network.

Facility upgrades

To ensure you have access to comfortable facilities, $3.4 million is being invested into assessing and upgrading vital driver facilities such as meal rooms and bathrooms.

Technology upgrades

New navigation technology will make it easier for drivers to learn new routes, with visual and voice guided instructions.

As a new driver, you will be better supported as you learn your routes. It will also improve the reliability of the timetables and ensure passengers have fewer disruptions to services.
