February 2025 - Action plan

We have developed an action plan aimed at improving transport infrastructure, pedestrian safety, and road network efficiency in Braidwood and Bungendore.

The plan, shaped by community consultation and technical assessments addresses both the current and future transport needs of these communities.

We will work with Queanbeyan-Palerang Council to bring these plans to life with a timeline ranging from high priority actions (0-2 years) to long term goals (5-10years).

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is the project about?

We are investigating improvements to the transport network in and around Braidwood and Bungendore. This forms part of our long-term commitment to provide safe, efficient and reliable journeys on the Kings Highway while maintaining the character and amenity in the town centres.

What is the study area?

The study areas include Braidwood and Bungendore.

What is the focus of the investigation?

The investigation into the key constraints and issues experienced when traveling in and around Braidwood and Bungendore is now complete. The investigation focused on road safety, holiday traffic, active transport connectivity, traffic queuing, delays in peak periods, public transport availability, and the future transport needs of the community.

Based on the community consultation and technical assessments, an action plan has been developed to address these issues. The plan includes actions and initiatives to help reduce travel times, improve holiday traffic management, enhance road safety, boost pedestrian and cyclist connectivity, maintain the town centre's amenity, and guide future transport planning decisions.

Could improvements to public transport assist in reducing congestion?

Feedback and suggestions about changes or improvements to public transport will be considered as part of the consultation. Feedback will help inform future transport solutions.

How will Transport consider improvements to connections for cyclists and pedestrians?

Transport has considered opportunities to encourage walking and cycling in the area to help reduce the demand for car trips. The action plan outlines a number of actions and initiatives to improve active transport infrastructure in Braidwood and Bungendore.

What happens next?

We will work closely with Council to roll out the action plan. The timeline for these actions ranges from high priority actions (0-2 years), medium term actions (2-5 years), and long term goals (5-10 years).

While some actions are already in planning or delivery phase, new actions and goals will be investigated further to determine their feasibility.
