Strategic Freight Forecasts 2022 (SFM 22)

This dashboard shows NSW freight commodity volume tonnage movement forecast data and maps by origin and destination at Statistical Area Level 3 (SA3) and Statistical Area Level 4 (SA4) level

Prepared by Transport Modelling within Transport Planning, these forecast data and maps reflect growth based on underlying market and policy drivers of freight commodity demand between 2021 and 2061.

The purpose of the dashboard is to allow users to construct a range of forecast data and maps which suit their needs. This including the ability to select different forecast years, commodities, origin and destination SA3s/SA4s and rankings.  This, in turn allows users to obtain insights into the key characteristics of the forecasts at a more detailed level (i.e., the relative importance of specific freight commodities to specific areas across NSW).

At a more general level, the dashboard allows users to obtain a sense of the NSW freight landscape.

For more information regarding the technical drivers and assumptions behind the forecasts, see the NSW Freight Commodity Demand Forecast Report 2021-2061 Summary report (to be released on TfNSW Open Data Hub in July 2025) or contact TransportModelling@transport.nsw.gov.au.
