Automated Shuttle Trials

We work with industry, research partners and community to trial automated passenger vehicle services.

Automated vehicle technology has the potential to reduce death and injuries on NSW roads which result from factors such as driver fatigue, driver distraction, speed, and inexperience.

Driverless shuttle buses have been trialled in a number of locations in New South Wales.

During key trial phases, automated shuttles are able to be boarded by industry and community members.

The automated shuttle trials are operated in low traffic environments to provide research and learnings in:

  • identifying connected and automated vehicle (CAV) capability and future use cases
  • data collection and mapping of infrastructure surrounding CAVs
  • physical and digital infrastructure required to enable CAV operation
  • potential use of CAVs to improve customer mobility outcomes and
  • role of government, industry, and researchers in enabling CAV technology.
