Bermagui Harbour boat ramp and pontoon opens to public

Transport for NSW Maritime has delivered better access to Bermagui Harbour with a new boat ramp and pontoon now open to the public.
 
Bega Valley Shire Council’s Director of Assets and Operations Ian Macfarlane said the new additions to the harbour improves accessibility for the community and comes off the back of community feedback.
 
“We have listened to the boating community in Bermagui and they are now able to enjoy a new three-lane concrete ramp and new pontoon,” Mr Macfarlane said.

Additional work has also been carried out to ensure the safety of the Bermagui community, including new road line markings for parking and pedestrian areas.

“This jointly funded $1.2 million upgrade is a great boost to the community and tourists just ahead of the summer season,” Mr Macfarlane said.

“The upgrade, carried out by the Bega Valley Shire Council, meets the growing needs of this community with the South Coast a hot spot for the summer holidays.”

“The new pontoon will provide ease of access to vessels and also improves access for people of all abilities as vessels can be tethered to the structure as people get on and off.”

“We thank the public for their patience during the construction period and that the facility will be open to coincide with spring and warmer weather when boating activity increases.”

NSW Maritime Executive Director Mark Hutchings said the new boat ramp completes significant upgrades and improvements made to the amenity of the harbour.

"Since 2014, we’ve invested $98 million in about 330 maritime infrastructure projects across the state,” Mr Hutchings said.

“It is great to see how this funding is transforming facilities for boaters and the wider public.”
