Bulli clearways put on hold
After listening to the concerns of residents and businesses in Bulli who have been worried about the impacts the proposed extension of clearways in the historic township would have on the community, the NSW Government has today announced that the new clearways will be put on hold.
The proposed clearways had been opposed by a significant number of residents and businesses who were concerned about the lack of parking that would be available near shopfronts on the Princes Highway.
After significant campaigning from the community, extensions to the clearways on the Princes Highway have been put on hold, while other improvements to the town centre will progress as planned.
Work will include; a new 30 km/h speed zone on Park Road, Station Street, Railway Street and Bank Street; a dedicated right-turn phase at the Park Road traffic lights; and adjustments to access to Station Street to make it left-in and left-out only, to improve traffic flow.
Transport for NSW will carry out further monitoring to measure the performance of the highway without the clearways.
Member for Heathcote, Maryanne Stuart said:
“This is a big win for those residents and business in Bulli who were deeply concerned about the impacts the extended clearways would have.
“These changes will make it safer for motorists navigating their way through the historic township of Bulli.
“Importantly, this shows that the NSW Government is one that listens to the concerns of communities.”
Member for Keira, Ryan Park said:
“Thank you to everyone in the community who has raised their voice on this important issue.
“Maintaining the long-term viability of Bulli township is deeply important to both myself and Maryanne and I am proud that we have been able to deliver this for Bulli.
“Today’s announcement shows what happens when the community and government work together to find real solutions to local problems.”
