Community day to add flare to the weekend at Lake Macquarie

Flare and fire extinguisher demonstrations, lifejacket servicing clinics, and a bonanza of boating safety information will be part of the fun at a NSW Maritime community event at Lake Macquarie this weekend.

NSW Maritime Director North Nicole Watts said Pelican Foreshore Reserve at Lake Macquarie will host the state’s second ‘Are You Boat Ready? Day’ event between 9am and 3pm this Sunday, 30 April.

“The Are You Boat Ready? Day is a fantastic opportunity for boaters and the local community to see boating safety equipment in action, update their knowledge, and ask local experts any questions they have about boating in the Hunter,” Mrs Watts said.

“We will have our NSW Maritime Boating Education Officers on site, along with representatives from NSW Police Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue NSW, Service NSW, and Surf Life Saving NSW, plus retail partners so you can grab a new lifejacket or some boating safety gear right here on site.”

Transport for NSW Deputy Secretary for Safety Environment and Regulation Sally Webb said the day will reinforce key safety messages for the location.

“This Sunday is about equipping boaters with everything they need to plan, prepare, and predict for every trip on the water,” Ms Webb said.

“Whether it is equipment advice, local knowledge, lifejacket servicing techniques, or how to set up weather alerts on your phone, we’ll have experts on site ready to help.”

Those heading to the Are You Boat Ready? Day can also enjoy a snag by the lake, with a barbeque being run by Marine Rescue.
