Community voice heard for Thurgoona Drive interchange

Dual lanes and a path providing better connectivity are just some of the suggestions received during community consultation around upgrades to improve safety and traffic flow through the Hume Highway and Thurgoona Drive Interchange at Albury.

Transport for NSW Regional Director South, Sam Knight, said feedback received from the community has been published in a community consultation summary report.

“We are investigating ways to improve traffic flow and road safety at the Thurgoona Drive interchange, which currently experiences congestion and queueing during peak periods,” Ms Knight said.

“With ongoing development and population growth in the area, it is important we work to address this for road users now, and into the future.”

Ms Knight said, as part of the planning process, community members were invited to provide feedback on their experiences using the interchange.

“There’s a strong message from respondents for us to provide dual lanes on Thurgoona Drive. The other clear theme was the desire for a separate shared path providing an east to west connection through the interchange,” Ms Knight said.

“Other suggestions included the addition of extra slip and auxiliary lanes. We also heard concerns around congestion at key points on the interchange and the nearby local road network.

“We want to thank everyone who provided feedback as it is invaluable to help inform the plan forward.”

Transport will use feedback received from the community consultation to refine and develop the concept plans for the interchange and is committed to working with the community while developing plans for Albury’s future transport network.
