Contract awarded for final Sydenham to Bankstown Temporary Transport Plan

Published

Transport for NSW has appointed Transit Systems to enable delivery of the 2024 Temporary Transport Plan for the T3 Sydenham to Bankstown conversion as the line is upgraded for the new Metro.

Under the contract, Transit Systems will provide rail replacement buses while the upgrade work is carried out for 12 months starting between July and October 2024.

Transport for NSW will now work with the contractor to finalise the plan to deliver bus services to ensure passengers can get to where they need to go throughout the conversion of the line.

Completing this upgrade ensures that passengers in the Southwest will get the benefits offered by Metro services, including a fast metro train every four minutes, and fully accessible stations and services.

Transport for NSW will update the community once the Temporary Transport Plan is finalised over the coming months sharing detailed information including replacement bus routes, and alternate transport options including use of local buses, other train lines as well as walking and bike riding.

We thank passengers and the community for working with us during this time.

Quotes attributable to Transport for NSW Secretary Josh Murray:

“We are now putting in place a temporary Transport Plan with Transit Systems to ensure passengers can get to where they need to do during this rail shutdown.”

“This will be a very difficult and disruptive time for the community that relies on the T3 line. We're going to be doing all we can to give passengers plenty of travel options on buses and on other parts of the rail network.”

“It's going to be a tough 12 months for passengers. The good news is that once this work is done, passengers in the southwest will have access to a train that comes every 4 minutes, along with fully accessible stations and services."
