Customers advised of North Coast passenger train disruptions

Published
A freight spill of sugar on railway tracks near Coffs Harbour earlier today is causing disruption to train services including NSW TrainLink North Coast passenger services in both directions.

As operator of the rail line, the Australian Rail Track Corporation was involved in cleaning up the spill. The ARTC advises the line was reopened about 3.45pm.

NSW TrainLink advises that while the line is open, the impacts are continuing to be felt.

Passengers are likely to face some form of disruption today and tomorrow in the form of cancellations, delays or services transferred to coaches.

This morning’s 5.15am Grafton to Sydney XPT (NT 36) was unable to get past the spill site and was terminated near Coffs Harbour with passengers conveyed by road coaches for the remainder of their journey.

This morning’s 6am Brisbane to Sydney XPT (NT32) was also affected. Some passengers have been put on coaches from Grafton for the remainder of the journey while others could be accommodated on tonight’s Casino to Sydney service.

This morning’s 11.41am Sydney to Grafton XPT (NT35) was replaced by road coaches for the entire journey.

The 7.09am Sydney to Casino service (NT33) is running around 80 minutes late. This service will terminate at Grafton with passengers to join coaches to Casino.

Tonight’s 7.30pm Casino to Sydney service (NT34) will commence as road coaches from Casino to Grafton where passengers will join the XPT through to Sydney.

There are also flow-on effects into tomorrow, due to the delays, and the inability to get trains back into Sydney in time.

Tomorrow’s 5.15am Grafton to Sydney XPT (NT36) has been cancelled and passengers have been offered travel on alternative services later in the day.

Tomorrow’s 7.09am Sydney to Casino service (NT33) has been cancelled and will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.
