Don’t tackle the traffic to the Wallabies v The British & Irish Lions clash

Around 80,000 rugby fans are expected to travel to Accor Stadium Sydney Olympic Park for Wallabies v The British & Irish Lions, as part of the 2025 Lions Tour on Saturday 2 August.

Transport for NSW Executive Director Grant Knoetze said fans supporting Australia and The British and Irish Lions are urged to use public transport included in their game tickets.

“A Lions Tour always sees passionate fans fill stadiums. Lions fans have waited 12 years to see their team back in Australia. Wallabies’ supporters will be out in force. We want everyone to enjoy this historic night. Don’t tackle the traffic; public transport is the way to go.”

“To make sure you are there in time for kick off at 7.45pm it is best to catch public transport. Travel on all modes of public transport is included in your match ticket. Just show your ticket to transport staff when boarding services.

“There will be plenty of extra trains and major event buses running to Sydney Olympic Park from early afternoon. Fans are encouraged to get there early and enjoy the buzzing pre-game atmosphere in the precinct.” Mr Knoetze said.

Express trains will run frequently from Central Station to Olympic Park from early afternoon, with return services running after the game until late. Fans travelling from the west need to change at Strathfield instead of Lidcombe to connect with express trains to Olympic Park. Shuttle trains from Lidcombe will not run after 4.30pm.

Sydney Olympic Park Major Event Buses will run on all nine routes every 4 to 25 minutes to get fans to the game with services running between 3:05pm and 7pm, depending on the route. The last return bus on each route will leave Olympic Park about an hour after the game has finished.

Fans who need to drive should pre-book parking ahead of time to secure a space.

“If you need to drive, you will need to pre-book parking to secure a spot. Motorists should allow plenty of extra travel time on the roads as heavy traffic is expected before and after the match.”
