Extra Vivid services continue during weekend Rail Repair trackwork

Published

Rail passengers in Sydney’s west and southwest are advised there will be some impacts this weekend as we carry out the Rail Repair Plan to build a more reliable and resilient network.

Our trackwork has been carefully planned to ensure minimal impact on those heading to the final weekend of Vivid, which wraps up on Saturday at 11pm.

This weekend’s maintenance work will mainly affect the T2 Inner West & Leppington and T5 Cumberland lines from 2am Saturday 17 June to 2am Monday 19 June, with buses replacing trains between Cabramatta and Granville.

Trains will still run between Leppington and the city, but via Regents Park.

Full replacement buses will be in service for those traveling from the affected stations of Canley Vale, Fairfield, Yennora, Guildford and Merrylands.

To assist people traveling around for Vivid’s final night, 24 trains per hour will continue to run on the City Circle between 5pm and midnight on Saturday – a total of 40 extra trains compared with a normal weekend.

As we do with all major events to ensure safety, trains at Circular Quay Station between 6pm and 11pm are there to pick up passengers only, those wanting to get off will need to do so at St James or Wynyard – a short walk to Circular Quay.

In addition to working closely with police, security and operational staff, we will have extra customer service staff wearing pink shirts on the ground around key transport hubs to assist patrons.

Other trackwork of note this weekend: After Vivid has concluded, from 2am Sunday 18 June to 2am Monday 19 June, buses replace trains between Central and Bondi Junction on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra line. Passengers can also use the L2 Randwick line and regular bus services on the route.

This weekend’s Rail Repair Plan work will see 965 workers across approximately 110 worksites and 21km of track closures, undertaking a significant amount of work including the removal of more than 100 high-priority defects.

Sydney Trains is working hard to minimise the impact on passengers by completing work outside peak periods, however passengers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and plan ahead by visiting transportnsw.info or using trip planning apps on their mobile devices.
