Football fans urged to plan ahead for a bumper weekend of sport at Moore Park
Football fans should plan their travel before heading to Moore Park this weekend to watch any of the football matches; rugby, AFL or NRL.
On Saturday night, 5 July, up to 40,000 rugby fans will head to Moore Park to watch the Waratahs take on the British & Irish Lions at Allianz Stadium from 7.45pm in the first of two Sydney matches on their 2025 Australian tour.
The next day, Sunday 6 July, Moore Park will host a double header with more than 50,000 fans attending AFL and NRL matches at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium. The Swans will take on Fremantle with first bounce at 1.10pm, followed by the Roosters taking on the Wests Tigers kicking off at 2pm. Both matches will finish around 3.50pm.
Transport for NSW Coordinator-General Howard Collins said with both Sunday matches kicking off within an hour of each other and finishing at the same time, the precinct will be very busy and parking will be in high demand.
"Public transport is the best way to get to all the matches this weekend. Simply show your match ticket to transport staff when boarding services.
“If you’re heading to Allianz Stadium or Sydney Cricket Ground catch one of the frequent light rail services to Moore Park, the light rail stop is a short walk across from either stadium.
“On Sunday afternoon with both AFL and NRL matches finishing at 3.50pm we expect queues for transport services to be long and traffic to be heavy as everyone leaves at the same time. Fans are reminded to be patient and follow the directions of transport staff. There will be frequent services to get everyone home.” Mr Collins said.
Fans can consider walking about 25 minutes from Central Station to Moore Park stadiums via Foveaux Street or Devonshire Street and the Albert ‘Tibby’ Cotter Walkway to avoid transport queues and traffic delays.
“If you must drive, consider car-pooling with others, allow plenty of extra travel time and aim to arrive early to secure a spot. Have a back-up plan in case on-site parking is full.”
“You can spend time after the match enjoying post-match activities or visiting the local venues to avoid the peak crowds”
