Free child seat checks in Bathurst and Lithgow

Parents and carers in the state’s central west can have their child car seats checked for free by an expert to ensure they have been fitted properly.

Transport for NSW Director Regional Community Partner Holly Davies said two in three child passengers are not seated in an appropriately restrained child car seat.

“Having a child seat fitted correctly is incredibly important, as children who are not restrained properly are seven times more likely to sustain life-threatening injuries in a crash,” Mrs Davies said.

“Transport for NSW is conducting free child car seat checks in Bathurst and in Lithgow to provide parents and carers with up-to-date information on laws, the types of restraints available and how to move their children from one type to the next as they get older.

“Our experts will also, of course, conduct checks for those who attend so they can rest assured they’ll drive away with their most precious cargo protected.”

Common mistakes in fitting child car seats include not tightening the straps properly, not checking clips and loose bolts that may need replacing.

Parents and carers can book in for a free check at:

•    Bathurst Toyota, 8 Corporation Ave on Wednesday 27 March, 9am-12pm.
•    Lithgow Auto Group, 75 Chifley Road Lithgow Tuesday 16 April, 10am-3:30pm.

Bookings are essential and can be made by contacting Kym.Snow@transport.nsw.gov.au
