Harrington and Coopernook Roads interchange progressing
The Pacific Highway interchange at Harrington and Coopernook roads is progressing, following the approval of the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) submissions report, published today.
Transport for NSW Regional Director North Anna Zycki said the Australian and NSW governments are planning to build an interchange with an overpass bridge that connects Harrington and Coopernook roads over the Pacific Highway to improve road safety and traffic flow.
“These two intersections provide a vital local connection between the communities of Harrington and Coopernook,” Ms Zycki said.
“They currently operate as staggered at-grade intersections, which results in local traffic having to complete a right turn across the Pacific Highway.
“The proposed upgrade would improve road safety by removing the right hand turns on and off the highway, while also improving accessibility and connectivity to the Pacific Highway for the local communities.”
The community and stakeholders were invited to provide feedback between Friday 9 February and Sunday 10 March 2024, which resulted in 28 formal submissions.
Ms Zycki said Transport for NSW has published the REF submissions report following the display of the concept design and Review of Environmental Factors (REF) earlier this year.
“The report summarises community feedback and provides our responses to comments made as well as confirms the environmental safeguards for the project,” Ms Zycki said.
“Of the 28 submissions received during the four-week consultation period, 82 per cent of respondents expressed their support for the project, with the remaining submissions neither supporting nor objecting to the proposal.
“Comments included the need to progress the build and concerns about the safety of the existing intersections, which the proposed upgrade would address.
“Respondents also raised concerns that the proposal does not include a park-and-ride facility on either side of the Pacific Highway.
“Transport for NSW is working with MidCoast Council to investigate the provision of a park-and-ride facility.

Transport for NSW is continuing to develop the project, progressing to detailed design, with timing for construction subject to further approvals and funding release.
Transport for NSW will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses.
