Have your say on community spaces along the Warringah Freeway

Published

Public spaces, tree-lined walkways and pedestrian and bike riding links will be key features along a reimagined Warringah Freeway under a draft Place, Design and Landscape Plan (PDLP) released today.

A Transport for NSW (Transport) spokesperson said the community is encouraged to provide feedback on the characteristics in the PLDP, which will shape the future public precincts along the Freeway alignment in Neutral Bay, North Sydney and Cammeray.

“The Plan includes new and upgraded pathways and bridge structures with indigenous artwork and cultural storytelling embedded throughout the design to enhance the community’s connection to the local place,” the spokesperson said.

“The aim is to create safe, vibrant open spaces and public infrastructure that is most beneficial to the community.

“We are keen to know what people think, and will continue to work with councils, residents and stakeholders, to together deliver great, connected places once the upgrade is complete.”

A Transport spokesperson said the department was also seeking public feedback on the Active Transport Network Review (ATNR), as part of the Warringah Freeway Upgrade.

Transport’s draft ATNR is specifically looking at the growing demand for safe and accessible pedestrian and bike riding paths, particularly in busy areas around the Warringah Freeway,” the spokesperson said.

“After consultation with local councils and cycling groups, we’ve identified gaps in our network and want to hear from the community how walking and bike riding can be made more appealing, and safer for families, commuters, visitors and for those who are less mobile.

“Some of the improvement ideas may focus on pathway accessibility and continuity, lighting, shade and shelter, better signage or more public spaces and shared zones.

“The suburbs we’re most eager for feedback on are across North Sydney, Milsons Point, Kirribilli, Neutral Bay, Cammeray, Crows Nest and St Leonards.”

Public consultation for both the draft Place, Design and Landscape Plan and the draft Active Transport Network Review is open from today (13 June) to 11 July.
