People with mobility issues or travelling with young children now have improved access to Taree Station following the completion of a station upgrade.
Transport for NSW Regional Director North Anna Zycki said the completion of the Transport Access Program at Taree Station was a win for the community, especially those with additional mobility requirements, parents and carers with prams and customers with luggage.
“The NSW Government has invested $3.6 million to improve accessibility at Taree Station which will benefit the lives of people every day,” Ms Zycki said.
“The Transport Access Program (TAP) is a NSW Government initiative committed to ensuring public transport is safe, accessible and modern for people living in the bush to build a stronger and more connected regional NSW.
“More than $2.2 billion has been invested in the Transport Access Program since 2011 to fund accessibility upgrades at stations.
“These TAP upgrades will strengthen our regional railway network by bettering connectivity, accessibility and ensuring customers have smoother and safer journeys.”
Ms Zycki said there were several key benefits including a new ramp to the platform, upgrades to footpaths and walkways between the platform and car park.
“Bus and coach passengers will now be able to transfer to and from rail services via an accessible path following regrading of the forecourt area of the station,” she said.
“Customers will also benefit from an upgrade of the two existing accessible car spaces, modifications to the waiting room and ticket counter, improved amenities including ambulant toilets, tactile indicators along the platform and improvements to lighting to increase safety and security.
“Work has now wrapped up and customers will be able to access the new and improved Taree Station.
“We thank customers for their patience while the project was being completed.”
