Improving road safety with extended school zone times for Coreen School at Blacktown

Published

Transport for NSW is boosting safety for students at Coreen School in Blacktown with the introduction of a non-standard school zone operating period.

The afternoon school zone operating time of 2pm to 4pm, instead of 2.30pm to 4pm, aligns with the time classes at Coreen School finish for the day and will make it safer for students while they travel home.

The school zone – which also serves Patrician Brothers College – covers Newton Road, Flushcombe Road, Marion Street, Hereward Highway, Grafton Street, Kempsey Street, Campbell Street and Colo Lane.

The red light speed camera at the intersection of Flushcombe Road and Newton Road will be adjusted to accommodate the extended afternoon school zone period.

This will be the first red light speed camera to operate in a NSW school zone with non-standard operating times.

The morning school zone will remain in place from 8am to 9.30am.

Work will also include installing new school zone and 40 km/h signs, which will include flashing and static signage as well as road and pavement markings.

Transport for NSW will carry out the work over four shifts, from 7am to 5pm, between Monday 15 and Tuesday 30 January, weather permitting.

Temporary traffic changes will be in place during the work.

Motorists are advised to follow signs and traffic controllers’ directions. Access for residents will be always maintained.

Platform ladders and a crane truck will be in the area as this work is completed.

The work is not expected to be noisy and Transport for NSW will strive to minimise disruptions for the community.

The new school zone times will be in operation from Tuesday 30 January when the NSW school year commences.

Transport for NSW thanks the community for their patience while this work is carried out.
