Industry leaders show support for M1 Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace

More than 80 regional business leaders joined an industry forum early this month to learn how they can help deliver the Black Hill to Tomago section of the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.  
Transport for NSW Regional Director North Anna Zycki said the extension will transform the way people move to and from the Hunter, and it was encouraging to see so many business and industry leaders wanting to be involved in the project.
“More than $3 billion of projects are being funded by the Australian and NSW governments across the Hunter at the moment, and we are excited to see the benefits flow to the region and beyond during construction and after,” Ms Zycki said.
“The project team, together with the joint venture partner John Holland Gamuda, hosted an industry event on Wednesday 2 August to outline how businesses from across the region could be involved in the project.
“The response was fantastic and shows how much interest there is locally in this transformative project.” 
Ms Zycki said the two-hour briefing at Hexham Bowling Club included a high-level overview of the Black Hill to Tomago project, an introduction to contractor and construction staging, as well as the Industry Capability Network gateway and registration, skills legacy and Aboriginal participation, together with a question and answer session.
“This project will benefit local business and industry for years to come,” Ms Zycki said.
“They will be able to contract for work during construction and will pick up skills along the way that will help them bid for other projects in the future.
“It was fantastic to see so many here who are eager to be involved and we hope to see them do so when major construction work starts later this year.”
The extension is expected to be open to traffic in 2028.
The Australian Government and NSW Government are jointly funding the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace on an 80:20 basis.
