Kirrawee pedestrian bridge now open

The installation of a new pedestrian bridge at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Bath Road at Kirrawee is officially open.

Member for Miranda and Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads Eleni Petinos said the new pedestrian bridge has been built to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity in the area.

"The Princes Highway is used by more than 75,000 motorists a day travelling between Sydney and Wollongong, and provides a link for pedestrian movements between residential and commercial areas," Ms Petinos said.

"The new pedestrian bridge will improve accessibility and safety for local residents, families, and members of the community with mobility requirements crossing the Princes Highway."

"It also completes the missing link in the area's walking network, improving pedestrian connectivity across Kirrawee and surrounding suburbs."

The pedestrian bridge includes two new lifts and two stairways - one each on either side of the bridge - to improve accessibility, as well as CCTV cameras to boost safety.

Work to install a pedestrian fence along the median of Princes Highway between Oak Road and The Kingsway will commence in early 2021.

Ms Petinos thanked the community for their ongoing patience as this important work was carried out, as well as the ongoing work to upgrade the Princes Highway.

The NSW Government funded this project as part of its $300 million Gateway to the South Pinch Point Program.
