Lone Pine Bridge walkway open for good

The new walkway on the Lone Pine Bridge at Bundarra is now permanently open to pedestrians, with work now complete.

Transport for NSW has replaced the existing walkway on the 204-metre bridge thanks to a $1.7 million investment from the NSW Government.

Transport for NSW spokesperson Mick Papadopoulos said the bridge provides a vital link across the Gwydir River.

“Lone Pine Bridge carries traffic on the historic Thunderbolts Way, which connects Inverell and Gloucester,” Mr Papadopoulos said.

“The bridge is especially important for students walking to Bundarra Central School, which is right beside the bridge.

“We’ve replaced the walkway to improve pedestrian safety and ensure the longevity of the bridge.

“Work began in October and we’ll be carrying out further work to upgrade the bridge barrier rail in 2026.

“Our crews will be on-site until mid-May tidying up before they move on to their next assignment.

“Crews will return next year for the next phase of this project which involves upgrading safety barriers, patch painting and corrosion repairs, and minor maintenance work.”

Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience while this work is completed.
