Lower speed limit for improved safety along Panai Avenue in Dubbo LGA

Motorists are advised to slow down to 80 km/h in Panai Avenue, just south of Dubbo, to improve safety for all road users and residents.

Transport for NSW carried out a speed zone review along Panai Avenue, about 16 kilometres outside the centre of Dubbo, after a resident raised concerns about the 100 km/h speed limit.

Transport for NSW Regional Director West Alistair Lunn said a speed zone review was justified given the winding nature of the road, the number of access and intersections, and the dense bushland and trees along the 4.06 kilometre section.

“Panai Avenue has seen a significant amount of development over the years, and now has 25 access driveways and two intersections,” Mr Lunn said.

“Panai Avenue has trees and vegetation quite close to the road which is unforgiving should a vehicle run off the road.

“The vegetation can also conceal wildlife leading to animal strikes.

“Additionally, a lower speed limit will improve visibility for vehicles turning into and coming out of either of the intersections with Morey Place and Berrawinnia Place.”

An 80 km/h speed limit along the entire length of Panai Avenue is supported by Dubbo Regional Council and local police, and comes into effect from Tuesday 8 August, with new signs to indicate the changed speed zone.
