Major road upgrades to support western Sydney's growth

The upgrades of Elizabeth Drive and Mamre Road Stage, two critical roads connecting Western Sydney, are progressing at pace in preparation for the opening of the Western Sydney International Airport.

Along with the Commonwealth, The NSW Government is investing $5.2 billion in 2024-25 towards completing the roads, the missing links in Western Sydney to connect communities to jobs and families.

Infrastructure delivery, especially local roads has not kept pace with development. Each day 28,000 vehicles, including construction trucks, battle along the single lane Elizabeth Drive. A new project milestone, including work this weekend, will see the Badgerys Creek Road intersection with Elizabeth Drive move one step closer to transforming Elizabeth Drive into a four-lane major connecting road.

The Elizabeth Drive project milestones include:

  • completion of the Review of Environmental Factors
  • release of the Submissions Report, which identifies improvement works planned.
  • Moving traffic onto a new section of Badgerys Creek Road this weekend to allow for work on the next 2 kilometres Elizabeth Drive dual carriageway.

Meanwhile, planning and investigation work is continuing for the $1 billion Stage 2 upgrade of Mamre Road between Erskine Park Road and Kerrs Road.

Additionally, communities around Western Sydney International Airport are invited to provide feedback about their experience of roads in the area, especially relating to any issues with road safety, congestion or access.

Feedback will be considered and used to develop targeted improvements to the road, such as intersection upgrades, road repaving, and improved signage or line-marking.

Feedback can be lodged here and is being heard through to 30 November 2024.

The Australian and NSW governments are also looking at what other improvements can be made to roads around the emerging Western Sydney Airport Precinct.
