Planning for pedestrian bridge at Hurstville moves ahead

The NSW Government is committing $4.8 million for planning a proposed pedestrian bridge at Hurstville as part of the Urban Roads Fund.

Transport for NSW is proposing to build the bridge over Forest Road at Hurstville to provide a safer crossing at this busy location, which is just a short distance from Hurstville Public School.

This upgrade will form connections for pedestrians and cyclists crossing and connecting with local amenities and services.

Consultation opened on Monday 2 June and the community is invited to provide feedback on the proposed location of the bridge and parking changes in the area.

The proposed design has stair and lift access on both sides and is suitable for pedestrians, people with mobility issues, prams and bikes.

Fencing along Forest Road in front of the pedestrian bridge would provide additional safety for pedestrians.

Key benefits of the proposal included improved connectivity and safe access for pedestrians and cyclists across Forest Road as well as enhanced convenience by providing direct links to local services.

The proposal would also improve road safety in the area while easing congestion and improving vehicle travel times with less use of the signalised pedestrian crossings.

Changes to parking on Forest Road are proposed to allow for the installation of new pedestrian fencing.

This includes the removal of eight time-restricted parking spaces from the western side of Forest Road as well as around eight time-restricted parking spaces on the eastern side of Forest Road between Lily Street and Cronulla Street.
