New Bus Interchange Opens at St Marys

Published

A new Bus Interchange will open in the former Veness Place carpark on Station Street, St Marys from 9pm on March 7, 2022.

Transport for NSW is relocating the bus interchange to the other side of the street, so that construction works for the future Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport can commence.

The city-shaping Metro project, from St Marys through to the new airport and the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, will provide a major economic stimulus for western Sydney, supporting more than 14,000 jobs during construction for the NSW and national economies.

Signage is in place explaining where bus routes will pick up and set down with works on the interchange expected to continue through to April.

While some works will continue after the bus interchange becomes operational, Transport for NSW is planning for minimum disruption to customers and community. Where possible work will be undertaken outside peak hours.

The interchange has been designed with shelter and seating, while the extended works program includes drainage upgrades.

Under the changes, motorists will no longer be able to travel along Queen Street onto Station Street, with alternate arrangements being made via Phillip Street and Lethbridge Street.

Drop-off kiss and ride zones will continue to be available at Nariel Street. Taxis will be able to continue to traverse Queen Street to St Marys Station.

The planned changes are designed to minimise inconvenience while work on Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport moves into its next phase.

The Australian and NSW governments have a shared objective of having Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport operational when Western Sydney International airport opens for passenger services.

While these changes are necessary, the end result will give St Marys connectivity to the coming airport and the groundwork for what will become an important multi modal transport interchange.
