Plan ahead for NRL Grand Final and remainder of school holidays

Sydneysiders are urged to plan ahead over the next week and be aware of disruptions as footy fans head to the NRL Grand Final and families enjoy the final week of the school holidays.

Transport for NSW Acting Chief Operations Officer Mark Hutchings said about 80,000 footy fans are expected at Sydney Olympic Park to watch Penrith Panthers take on the Parramatta Eels in the NRL Grand Final at Accor Stadium on Sunday 2 October.

“Public transport is the best way to get to the Grand Final, with plenty of trains and major event buses running to and from Sydney Olympic Park – so leave your car at home and plan ahead,” Mr Hutchings said.

“Your trip to the footy is made even easier with travel on all modes of public transport included in your ticket, so get to the ground early and enjoy the pre-game atmosphere in the precinct.

“Additional express trains will run from Central to Olympic Park and along the Western Line to Olympic Park from late afternoon, but if driving is your only option, pre-book parking online to secure a space.”

Customers are reminded to plan ahead if they are using the T3 Bankstown Line, with buses replacing trains between Lidcombe and Sydenham via Bankstown. More information on these service changes can be found at transportnsw.info.

Mr Hutchings said with patronage across the network down during the school holidays, a number of essential maintenance and upgrade works will be carried out on the T1 North Shore and Metro North West lines.

“The T1 North Shore Line between Gordon and North Sydney and the Metro North West Line between North Ryde and Chatswood will be closed from Monday 3 to Friday 7 October for rail upgrade works while we also carry out important maintenance and safety work, such as signal works and track inspections,” Mr Hutchings said.

“The T1 North Shore Line will also be closed between Hornsby and Wynyard and from Tallawong to Chatswood along the Metro North West Line on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October.

“This way we can ensure the upgrade work is finalised before the HSC, as we want to ensure parents and students are not disrupted during this incredibly important time.

“If you do travel along these rail lines, please make alternative travel arrangements if possible. If you must travel by public transport, please plan ahead as there will be very limited bus services running.

“Parking restrictions will also be in place on roads around the affected train stations for temporary bus zones.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding as this important work is carried out.”
