Plan your trip – T6 rail replacement buses start on Sunday

Published

Train passengers, school children, parents and carers in south west Sydney are being asked to check their travel apps and plan ahead to prepare for upcoming trackwork on the T6 rail line, when train services will be replaced by fare- free bus services.

Fare-free rail replacement buses between Bankstown and Lidcombe will begin on 27 April 2025 through to 29 June 2025, and include an all stops and express service;

  • 8T6: All stations between Bankstown and Lidcombe (all stops)
  • 8AT6: Bankstown, then Lidcombe and return (express)

Both the all-stops (8T6) and the express service (8AT6) will operate to an 8-minute frequency during peak periods, and a 15-minute frequency during off-peak times, ensuring replacement buses offer passengers a similar frequency to the usual T6 rail services.

Acting Transport for NSW Coordinator-General Barbara Wise said the community needs to check their trip.

“We are working as hard as we can to minimise impacts on passengers, but we know that school is going back next week, so we are asking parents, carers and school children to please check the trip planner, plan your trip and look out for the fare-free 8T6 and 8AT6 buses which will temporarily replace T6 train services,” Ms Wise said.

“To ensure passengers can get to where they need to go, street teams will be on the ground across the T6 corridor on select days to assist commuters with any questions they may have and help ensure people have the information they need to prepare for their trips.

“I want to thank the community for their patience while we future proof the transport network.”

The stations that are affected by the temporary closure are Bankstown, Yagona and Birrong.

The remainder of the T3 Line will still be open between Liverpool and the City via Regents Park and Lidcombe.

Passengers at Lidcombe can continue to use the T1 Western, T2 inner West or T3 Liverpool rail lines if heading into the city, and Berala and Regents Park passengers can continue to use T3 services as an alternative.

The trackwork will allow Sydney Metro to undertake major construction work associated with the Southwest Metro.
