Public transport the No 1 choice in mega music week
Music fans are being urged to follow a simple message ahead of a series of huge concerts in Sydney next week – that Nothing Compares to public transport options to keep The Weeknd and Stray Kids fans On Track to get to their gigs safely.
With The Weeknd playing two nights at Accor Stadium on 22 and 23 October and Stray Kids on at Allianz Stadium on 26 October, the tens of thousands of gig-goers at both precincts are being urged to leave the car at home.
Transport for NSW Coordinator-General Howard Collins said traffic in both precincts will be heavy, with localised road closures and limited parking, whereas extra train, light rail services and regular buses will be in operation to help move thousands of ticketholders to and from the events.
“This is a big week for live music in Sydney, and we want to play our part in getting every fan to and from these fantastic gigs,” Mr Collins said. "Public transport is the best way to get there and travel is included in concert tickets for both The Weeknd and Stay Kids - simply show your ticket to transport staff when boarding services.
“If you must drive, or are catching taxis or rideshare, please leave plenty of additional travel time and expect traffic delays.”
For The Weeknd, express and limited-stop trains to Olympic Park will run regularly from Central and Western Line stations, with frequent return services after the show.
With thousands more fans attending another gig in the Olympic Park precinct on October 22, Mr Collins urged ticketholders to allow plenty of time if they have to drive or take advantage of the additional train services running for The Weeknd.
Fans attending the other concert will need to use an Opal card or contactless payment method.
“With support acts from 5pm, local cafes and restaurants open and food trucks and entertainment in the precinct around Accor Stadium, there’s every reason for concertgoers to arrive early and soak up the atmosphere,” Mr Collins said.
“If you have no other option but to drive to Olympic Park, you must have pre-booked parking as every spot is expected to sell-out.”
Similarly, Mr Collins encouraged fans of Stray Kids to make use of extra light rail services and regular buses to head for Moore Park on Saturday night and avoid driving if possible.
“The other option is to catch a train or metro to Central Station and take the easy, 25- minute walk to Allianz Stadium along Foveaux or Devonshire Streets and the Albert ‘Tibby’ Cotter Walkway,” he added.
“There’s plenty of venues to enjoy along the way so again, come early and make a real night of it.” Parking on-site at Moore Park is limited and car parks are expected to reach capacity before the show starts so event-goers should have a backup parking option in mind.
Due to essential trackwork on Saturday October 26, trains will not run between Wynyard and Central, or on the City Circle. For travel around the city use metro, light rail or local bus services.
Buses will also replace trains between Strathfield and Central on theT2 and T3 Lines.
