Reduced speed limits on the way at Griffith and Tocumwal

Motorists will soon experience safer journeys on Rifle Range Road and Jones Road at Griffith and Tuppal Road at Tocumwal, with speed limits set to be reduced next week.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the speed limit will drop from 100 km/h to 80 km/h for 6.5 kilometres from Boorga Road to Rankins Springs Road and the 2.7 kilometres of Tuppal Road from Friday 29 September.

“The speed limit will be reduced for the entire length of Rifle Range Road and two kilometres of Jones Road to improve safety for motorists,” the spokesperson said.

“A speed zone review was carried out in response to a request from Griffith City Council due to increased residential development in the area and following three crashes recorded in recent years.”

The spokesperson said a speed zone review on Tuppal Road at Tocumwal was carried out following a request from Berrigan Shire Council given the narrow road pavement and lack of sight distance due to the levy bank and mature vegetation.

“Reducing the speed limit on Tuppal Road will apply consistency to the speed zone lengths within the area, improve safety for motorists and reduce the risk of crashes,” the spokesperson said.

“Speeding is the biggest contributor to road trauma in NSW, so it’s important that motorists are aware of the changed speed limit and follow the road rules.

“In NSW, speeding contributes to 40 per cent of road fatalities and 24 per cent of serious injuries from road crashes each year.

“Speeding increases both the risk of a crash happening, as well as the likelihood of death or serious injury.”

Signs will be in place to advise motorists of the new speed limit.
