Work is progressing to open Rozelle Parklands to the Inner West community this December with playgrounds, walking trails, bike paths and BBQs on track to be fired up this summer.

Transport for NSW Executive Director Community and Place for Greater Sydney Steven Issa said around 75 per cent of work has now been completed on the new recreation space that will also feature fitness equipment and two sports fields.

“We will be opening the Parklands on schedule prior to Christmas this year, and the space will continue to be enhanced and evolve even after the gates open,” Mr Issa said.

“We are committed to delivering a space that best meets the needs and expectations of locals, who we know are excited to finally get a look inside.

“The bulk of the work outlined in the current plans will be complete when we open.

“Transport is working with Inner West Council to deliver a Masterplan for Sydney’s latest green space, which will shape potential future improvements for the Parklands to ensure it meets community needs.

“Sportsground turf is currently being laid but will need time to establish. We hope to see sports kick-off on the new fields in the first half of 2024, and we’ll continue to enhance the space throughout 2024 with the delivery of lighting for the sports fields, multi-purpose courts and additional amenities like changing rooms.”

When completed, Rozelle Parklands will be one of the largest open areas in the inner city spanning around 10 hectares of green space with active transport links, wetlands, and native gardens.
