Significant delays for passengers heading home from Sydney Olympic Park

Passengers heading home from major events at Sydney Olympic Park experienced significant delays after a suspected act of vandalism at Ashfield impacted rail services at around 10pm on Wednesday night.

As a result, city-bound trains from Olympic Park were being diverted via the T3 Bankstown Line and there were flow-on delays at Lidcombe and Olympic Park Stations.

Sydney Trains has reported the incident to NSW Police, with investigations underway.

Specialist engineers were immediately deployed to rectify the issue and services were restored within approximately 90 minutes.

There were major delays for services on the T1 Western and North Shore, T2 Inner West and Leppington, T7 Olympic Park, T8 Airport and South, T9 Northern Line, Blue Mountains and Central Coast and Newcastle lines.

The Transport Management Centre alerted ride share operators during the delay to ensure their drivers were aware of the incident and to provide additional options for people to travel home from Sydney Olympic Park.

The Olympic Park precinct was clear of crowds at around midnight.

Sydney Trains thanks passengers for their patience.
